Finally went for the addition permit & started, this went very fast
Notice the cupola on the ground

It was nice getting the plywood deck on & starting the Great room walls. Some BIG windows went in

The I-joists went up for the next deck
The cupola has magically levitated to the great room floor

Attic floor is on, and I'll be able to have a door to the roof!!

Attic walls going up, cupola is following me

About ready for rafters

The great room will have a cathedral ceiling with 2 venting skylights
The back faces due South & the pool area

The addition will really not be very visible as you drive down the street. The neighbors tree will cover it when the leaves are out

Of course if you come from the other direction (dead end street) it's very noticeable

Double door to the garage, triple doors on the 2nd floor will look out onto a 6x10 deck. I can park my F150 truck at the back of the garage & the wife can park in front of me

Spare time was replacing all the windows & doors in the house
Rewiring almost the whole house & bringing it up to code

I also do a very large Halloween & Christmas display every year

Spare time I go scuba diving, but sometimes the weather isn't the best, I dive for lobster....yum...ocean to plate in about 2 hours

Wow big job and it seems to be going pretty quick for doing it solo.
Just curious as to why you didn't leave the openings boarded up until the roof was on?

Walls were pre-built & raised up into place
No way I can put most of those windows in after the fact
I would have needed a lift & 2 people
This was one 16' section raised up from the floor
That center window would probably take 4 people to secure in place after the fact

Scuba, your drawing from the other thread now makes sense to me. It sucks that you didn't get the roof on in time. Have you given up working on it for the winter? How long were you working on that portion of your renovation? Is the opening in the middle of the second floor a doorway or a large window?
Sat & Sunday are supposed to be mid-40's, Friday will be close to 40 - maybe - now the forecast is only 31
I'm planning on getting the other attic gable wall up & the ridge beam. Then start putting up rafters
I want to get the front roof on 1st - only about 10'
Then I can put a trap over the back 10' of attic roof to keep it dry
But since the back is one long roof I need to start at the bottom from the Great room

I started work Oct 5th, stopped for the most part Dec 5th
So 2 months of work, but only about 25 full days
Since Dec 5th I've been working but only a few hours a day here & there as weather allows. Mostly stopped for 2 months

That's a big tempered arch window in the back

I LIKE that window! Looks like you are going to get a perfect view of the back garden.

If you don't mind my asking, what did that tempered arch window set you back?
My project is much many much smaller. I had to stop because my next move was punching a 12' hole in the side of the house. I don't think the wife would appreciate it, like they say happy wife, happy life. I was fortunate enough to get a temporary roof built that I could tarp over and button up for the winter. Less than a week after I put the tarp up it snowed.
How did you get your front door by the inspector? I wanted to do something very similar but my town inspector said no door without a landing no matter which way the door swings.

I'm going to be building a new landing & steps out front
I've been told that if the door swings in as long as you have a landing inside you are all set - not sure if that is correct. But it is inside of a house. Stairs need to be rebuilt anyways & I want a small landing. Makes it easier to get in the house IMO when you are carrying something (or our son)

The window was purchased 4 years ago & was stored in the basement. I'm really not sure what we paid for it, but It was pretty cheap (in comparison). Most of the windows I bought were someone elses ordering mistake. The huge front window was only $300, the back one was about the same

I am interested in this solar powered hot tub, you installed by the pool. You being in a snowy area, do you keep that one heated year round or just in the summer time? I have never heard of a solar one, I might have to look into this idea

Haha well we an certainly deduce that you live in an area sans HOA with all those lawn ornaments.

No - No HOA, one requirement that I had when buying a house
I don't need a bunch of idiots telling me what I can & can't do with property I own. One guy in an HOA who decorates gets fined if Christmas decoration are not removed by a certain date
With all the snow & freezing rain we have had most of mine are still frozen in the front yard

The solar powered hot tub is not setup yet
It will recirculate water to the roof of the pool cabana to be heated by the sun. It's only for warm weather use
For the winter I have a tub by the house:
I shut this one off in the warm weather
