Remember the ugly 2x12s on the 2 walls of the new dining room? I decided to do a wrap around knick-knack shelf for the wife to hide it! Drywalled it, primed and painted, then created oak shelfing and trimmed it out in walnut.
I made it all easily removable for painting, and today she's bringing the new curtains home! yay!
....she loved it until she saw I had put a few of MY things on it.... as you can see, they are no longer there. heh heh
Still undecided if I should go all the way around the room or just the 2 walls with a smaller maybe 2 foot shelf that could round off? Or just butt the ends?
Any opinions?
I think it would look nice going around all four walls.
Also, how would it look if you hang the curtains from the bottom of the shelf on a rod held up by brackets made from the same kind of wood the shelf is made of?
I think it'd look a little strange....
But I DO need to get back to doing casements/trim now that the major crap is done and it's winter, so I can't do much outside.
I think I spend too much time on these silly magic boxes I make... lol
The ads are area specific if I'm not mistaken. I don't see it. Now, for me here, they'd probably post one for the good folks at Big C Lumber in Schoolcraft, Mi. .....if they had one. I like this lumber yard for various reasons... topmost being free delivery! And I've spent thousands there and saved hundreds I'm sure in delivery from the BB stores. (usually $50 or $60 bucks!!!) A few of their items cost a dollar or two more than the BB stores, of course, but the free delivery WAY more than covers that. Po)
Keep up the good work guys!
Well well! So you FINALLY answered almost a year later! Do you know I've been sitting here in front of my computer waiting for a reply? I haven't left the house and have barely stepped away from the computer - even to sleep.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get to the grocery store. I'm down to my last 3 coffee beans and 1/4 cup of milk/cottage cheese.
 - I'm just giving you a hard time.
Are you going to do the windows in the other rooms the same way?
That shelf is full of knick-knacks, the south wall with the 6'X6' windows is still unfinished. I've been too busy doing the inspectable things to the rest of the home.
Well, one thing at a time. Pretty much the same thing around here...
