First House - First Project - Bathroom Remodel
I've been hanging out here for several months reading threads and getting tips. Now I finally have some pictures of my own to show.
We purchased a 3200 sq ft foreclosure last year. It's 10 years old, but in relatively good condition. Nothing really wrong with it - it's just kinda run down from 10 years of wear and tear. I'm a carpenter by trade, so we don't mind fixing things ourselves.
So our first project was relatively small: Remodel the downstairs half bathroom. The thing was ALL WHITE and very plain.
Here are the before and after pics:
We did this thing on a very frugal budget. The light fixtures were under $3 each on clearance, the tile was all on clearance, the mirror was on clearance, the paint was discount mistinted, the corian countertop as well as the cabinet were given to me free from a friend.
The sink and faucet we found locally via ebay.
Fresh paint on the walls, ceiling, inside of the closet and the doors.
The only things that stayed are the toilet and the doors.
We did all of the work ourselves (WE is mostly me:thumbsup:), with the exception of cutting the corian to size - that I had a professional take care of. This was my first time ever laying tile - definitely learned a few things there. Never really painted much either, so I learned a little there too.
We used Rustoleum's Cabinet Transformations kit on the cabinet. We wanted to test it out on a small project to see if we would want to use it or not on our kitchen. We are pleased with the way it turned out. We used the Espresso color, with the glaze.
We also used metallic spray paint for the door knobs, hinges, outlet covers, towel holders and tp holders. Scuffed them up, primed them and sprayed them. They are all looking good, but the handle is starting to show a little wear.
So, that's about it for now. I welcome any tips or questions. Thanks for everybody's help so far!
Now that we finished the smallest room in the house, we have started to tackle the largest room: A living room that is about 600 sq ft and needs a complete face lift!
Looks nice, and your right it's a waste of time and money to try and just spray paint door knobs.
