1780 sq foot basement here we come!!
Hello all this website has been amazingly handy as I have bounced many ideas off you guys. I have a 1780 square foot ranch home that is pretty much wide open in the basement. 1 load bearing wall and that is all! Let me give you some background first. I have remodeled 3 other basements from start to finish. I would consider myself a "handyman" as I am not afraid to tackle something especially if I don't know how to fully achieve the final outcome. I will ask for help.

With that said my project is going to consist of a weight room which is 90% done as I have already been working on my basement on and off for a year now.

Bathroom which is all done except for the vanity and sink install which will hopefully be coming soon. I want to do it right and put one in that I REALLY like.

Then the downstairs bedroom which has the ceiling sprayed with a light knockdown and the walls are ready to be lightly textured. Then the fun rooms. I have a large game room with an attached wet bar which will feature concrete countertops and veneer brick facing. That particular room will be approximately 20' x 23' with about an 8 foot bar.

Another big project I am going to tackle is to create a bulk head around the entire basement to give it the look of tray ceilings. Fortunately my ceilings are 9 1/2 feet tall so I can get away with it. I want to include rope lighting in the crown molding to give the ceiling an enhanced look.

From the game room will open up into the theater room which is 17 feet wide by about 23' long. I will have a 110" projector screen come down from the ceiling.
I plan on doing this ENTIRE project by myself on my days off from work. I am hoping to have this complete by Super Bowl next year so I have about 14 months to go.

Keep checking the page for blogs and pics of whenever I accomplish something. The bedroom will be done shortly and I will post pics of the weightroom and of the bathroom right away.

The Bathroom features vertical tiles on the walls and glass inserts halfway up with a stone ledge around the tiles. The floors are 20" heated tiles set in at an angle. What a pain that was! A special thanks to oh'mike for his tremedous online help. All we need to do is install a vanity, sink and mirror and we are done.

The tiles have since be fully cleaned and they match the wall tile just different size obviously!

W.C. looks close to the tub, 15" from center? That left a lot of room for a vanity- 48"+? Rough-in was already there.... never mind. Try breaking the drywall joint mid-height of the walls, easier on the back.... Bath fixtures look nice, good job!

Gary you kind of lost me on this statement. 17" from center of teh toilet flange to the side of the tub. It looks deceiving. We are doing a 36" vanity with granit counter top and a vessel sink. thanks for the compliments though.

One question someone may help me with. I have not put up floor trim yet and the accent fixtures and the vanity are going to be an espresso color. I was thinking instead of staining wood trim an espresso color I would use bullnose ceramic tile in espresso color. How would that look? I think I would want it around 3-4" tall. Let me know the thoughts.

Bathroom looks great!

It looks great.

If you have an extra $20 sitting around, go to the hardware store and buy a handle for your toilet the same color as your fixtures. It makes a big difference.

Yes that is on my list of things to do. They do look nice and it will add some dimension to it for sure. My new vanity should be installed within the next month as well as the spare bedroom also done. I am excited to get them done and post photos. Thanks for the advice

Another picture. The doors and all trim will be a dark espresso color. The doors will be either solid bi fold doors or matching 2 panel oak doors. Let me know what you think.

Wow! Nothing timid about your project, is there?

Can I suggest one looks like your nice doors there currently have no finish on them. It's often a good idea to get perhaps a coat of some sort of sealer on them to protect them before you get around to do the finishing.

It keeps them cleaner, which saves you a bunch of sanding later.
