It appears the tension pulley & narrow belt have come off the dryer. The large belt on the drum is still intact. Seems like it would be a real pain to fix & would require disassembling the whole dryer. I took back & top panels off. Tension pulley was laying loose inside along with broken belt. Motor still works. Its an electric dryer that came with my house which I've owned for 8yrs so its at least that old.
Would it be too expensive to have repairman come to fix it? Or would I be better off replacing the dryer. I dont think "Estates" is a high end whirlpool brand.
I don't know this unit but the three or four I've been inside of are pretty basic. I found I could accesss the drive pulley from behind or by tipping the drier carefully so as not to chip the enamel. Can't be a whole lot parts wise on a dryer that was basically free. Why repalce it. Worst case call for a quote and tell them what you see.
