Window AC Security

Hello all! I am thinking about installing a window AC in a small room on the first floor; however, I am concerned about someone trying to kick in the AC in order to gain access to the house. An alarm system is present... but the insurance company would probably consider an open window, in that respect, a negative liability (you never know these days). Plus, just because an alarm system is present, that doesn't mean one's guard should be let down and worrying shouldn't be a concern. That being said, what is the best way to secure the unit to the window? It can't be permanent, obviously, because it can't be in the window during the winter months.

Any ideas?

normally you would screw the top mounting flange of the a/c to the window and then screw a type of L bracket to the top of the window so it can not be opened. I don't know of any other way to make it any more secure.

Your first phone call should be to your alarm company to find out if they would indeed consider it an open window.
