Whirlpool washer racket

When the machine starts to spin it makes a noisy like the gears being stripped. It happens especially when it is set on 'small load' and there is very few clothes in the tub. The other day when it was set on 'medium load', it started to make that noise and I ran to open the top but the tub had stopped rotating already. It did the same thing a few times in a row. It is not the bang, bang 'off center noise'.

new washer? or have you had this issue for a while?

i remember the front loader in our first house dancing across the floor when we first used it, sounding like the world was going to end. a little investigation revealed that the builder never removed the shipping restraints. took those off and all was well.
