Whirlpool Clothes Washer - Stops

My daughter has a 7-8 yr old Whirlpool top loader. It has been working very well. Today, after loading it fills with water, starts to agitate then stops--does nothing. She assures me it isn't overfilled. She has tried different cycles but same result.
Does anyone have any experience or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
orange

Yes I mentioned that to her. She's decided she getting new washer and dryer. She has 2 kids 1year old and the other just about to turn 3. She says she wants new.

Thanks for reading and responding.

Sounds like the Transmission is going out, or the Interlock for the Direct Drive may be broken. You would need to turn it on its side to look for oil on the floor, which would be a sign of the transmission going out. Or the Rubber & Plastic piece that interlocks the motor to the transmission drive for signs of wear or broken parts.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?

How do you know it's a direct drive without model number? Could be a Cabrio model which is a Fisher Paykel design that doesn't even have a transmission.

Sometimes maybe it is because of sudden electricity-off.Once I filled the water ordered the timer and started my washer and then I left, when I went back 3 hours later, the machine was off and the water was full of. Then I restarted again, it worked well. I thought it was because of the electricity-off suddenly
