where to buy appliances

I know alot of folks aren't too keen on big box stores (including me) but is it a good idea to buy applinaces there, or does GE etc make cheaper lines for the big boxes? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Are you looking for a low, mid or upper end models?

Problem with getting appliances shipped from someplace is that if something is not working right when they arrive, you need to find a way to ship it back - always a headache. With a physical store, especially when you do pickup, you can examine the item, and you can bring it back to store if something is wrong.

Big box stores sometime have promotions, coupons, etc that can shave some of the price off. I think for low-to-mid, big box are probably best.

Another option is smaller appliance showrooms. You can often cut a decent deal there. However, these often specialize in higher end appliances.

If the model number matches then it's the exact same item as anywhere else.
Many stores (Sears, Bestbuy, etc.) demand to have models built specifically for them with unique model numbers so that they don't have to honor competitor discounts. It's not just the orange and blue that do that.
