What is this part under my range?

When pulling out my range before tiling my kitchen floor, I found this attached to the wall behind. It looks like one of the oven feet slide into it. What is its purpose?

Checked here and it shows the part #231 in the diagram but doesn't list it in the parts list: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/pa...8625#d21468625

It attaches to the wall, (or sometimes the floor) the rear feet of your appliance slide into it. This is to prevent your range from tipping forward when the oven door is opened and someone uses the open door for a shelf. I think they come with all of the light-weight units. Use it!

its called an anti tip bracket and is a mandatory accessory to your range courtesy of the U.S. government.

looks like the tile has made the bracket holes too high to get to the wall bottom plate, and of course there are no studs directly behind either rear foot. Hollow wall anchors?

I opened the oven door and pressed down a good bit and could not make the range tip at all.

exactly, I would guess 90 % of those things end up in the trash. I am not telling you not to put it on I'm just saying. The best way would be to get a mason bit and drill through the tile and run your screws into the sub floor
