What does this diswasher component do and how does it work?

Hello:

Could you please tell me how to work the following diswasher part. I think you are supposed to pour some product that's supposed to make your dishes sparkle.

The ovular opening, unlike its circular counterpart, opens.

Thanks for the help.

You pour the Jet Dry in there. Jet Dry is a liquid that helps to keep dishes from spotting. Open the container (mine opens by twisting to the left), fill to the line, close container, all done.

Hello, Daniel. There is a dial in there. What setting is it supposed to be on? Also, How can you tell when it is full? Thanks.

The dial controls how much is used per load. My dial is set to 4, which is about the midpoint. The container is full when the liquid is almost to the top. There should be a cover that keeps the liquid in during operation.

Okay, great. To quote a legendary rocker, we're halfway there. But where do I put the agent: in the compartment that houses the dial or in the ovular orifice to the left of it? Regards.

Okay, I guess I was supposed to infer from this that it goes in the compartment that houses the dial. But I am still eager to learn what the ovular and circular parts on either side of it are.

they appear to be sight glasses ( so you can see if product is in fact in there)

Jet Dry is just one brand. What goes in there is called "rinse aid." Unless you have really hard water or have a water softener, you probably don't need to use any. I don't.

Try Googling the make and model of your dishwasher. You can probably download the users' manual.

Correct about the rinse aid, I happen to use Jet Dry, no endorsement there. My setup is a little different, you add the rinse aid to the same compartment where the dial is by opening the cover. I think the comment about the sight is correct, that looks like a method of telling how much you have left. In my setup, you cannot tell, a light comes on the front of the dishwasher when it is empty.

You will find parts in a dishwasher that defy explanation: wax motors and the like.

You will also see 120v signals appear and disappear on various components sooner than the timer chart would indicate.
