Water inside of thermos tip

A friend of mine has a coffee maker with a thermos type pot. They would wash it in a sink full of water. Water had gotten inside between the outer housing and the thermos, sloshing around. Because the bottom was plastic I just drilled a little hole on the outer edge and it drained out just fine. Do not drill in the center! You will hit the thermos vessel. Just a tip if you have the same problem, dorf dude...
