washing machine drain hose

Can anyone tell me why the drain hose loops up high on the inside
and then back down before it comes through the rear panel?
I have a new hose to install and thought why can't I just attach
it to the drain pump?

Thanks
Dave

siphoning, if you remove the loop it will siphon out.

Thanks for the info. The reason for the new hose was to get more length.
So instead I'll just attach new to old with a couple of hose clamps and
a short piece of pipe and leave the loop alone.
