Washer won't start

Hello everyone, my girlfriend has a Kenmore stacked washer/dryer combo unit Super Capacity. Not sure of the model number as I can find no info on it.
My problem... When I turn the knob to the desired cycle (regular, permanent press, delicates) I want to use and pull the knob out to start, nothing happens. When I turn the knob to any of the rinse cycles in the desired cycle, the tub starts to fill.
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

May get flamed for this, but just put on a setting that works and then let the cycle run its course. Then try the other cycles and see if they work.

Disconnect the hot and cold water lines and make sure that the screens in the end of the houses aren't clogged. It sounds like one of your hoses may be clogged...

Thx Jfrotten. I will give that a try, although, if the tub begins to fill on the rinse cycle it would seem they shouldn't be clogged should they?

I did order another timer switch. Would be nice to be able to return that.

Depending on your settings, the first fill may be with hot water (the clogged line) and the rinse fill is with cold water (the unclogged line). This would produce the problem you're having and it's one I've seen before. This may not be your problem but I believe in checking the easy stuff first.
