Washer spins empty

My ge washer will spin if empty- i must manually take the wet clothes out, give it help to spin the tub manually to get it going , and then add the clothes after it starts spinning one by one. This is crazy.could it just be the lid switch? I put a plastic clothes hanger in the hole to start the spin with the lid open. You hear the click of the switch engaging. It just wont start the spin cycle by itself.i have to manually turn the tub and then no problem, it starts spining like crazy. If this could be a little fix i can do it ,a bigger problem, and forget it. Help !

Washer spins empty

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Without more details, I'd guess a loose/worn out drive belt?
That's what I'd be HOPING for anyways, it's the simplest to fix!
