Vent hose is preventing dryer from pushing back

Hi everyone! I have a small laundry room and the silver vent dryer hose is preventing the dryer form going against the wall. The dryer comes out about about 4inches farther than the washing machine. It's really awkward with the doors and narrow walking space. There is nothing preventing the dryer from moving back but the hose. Is there an alternative to such a bulky vent hose?

You could custom build a rectangular duct and secure it to the back of your dryer so it would mate with the outlet when pushed back.

This is not the only company that makes these. You can get similar ones at your local hardware store.

How about cutting 4 inches off of the hose.

Are the outlet of the dryer and the inlet pipe in the wall lined up with each other? If so, ditch the hose and put in a short piece of metal duct pipe. The shorter the distance the better.

That's what I did. But I built my house myself so could put the hole in the wall exactly where I wanted it. The exhaust pipe is less than 1 foot long; would be shorter except the walls are 6 inches thick (logs).

Check the sides of your dryer. Many models come with a side discharge option. Using side discharge you could then push the back nearer the wall. Such models will have a 4" diameter metal knock-out on the sidewall, usually near the floor. Drawback is that it will require 5" to 6" spacing to the sidewall or washer.

Every house I've lived in had this problem. I hate it. I recently upgraded with the "dryer box" mentioned above. I got the metal one from Amazon.com and it should last the life of the house.

I changed out my mushroom vent, which when I got it, had to sand down the sides of the cup, to allow it to move freely. That is the largest problem, with it having bad ratings. The issue with the cup not freely moving, causes back pressure. The old units actually used a ball vs. the cup.

I went with the No nest, due to in the three years I had the mushroom style, it was getting banged up pretty good, due to getting knocked with the mower handle all of the time.

On the offside, the No Nest actually chatters when the dryer is running, so it makes more noise.

I do find these studies tend to be one sided, due to there are no other metrics to verify the results from that study.

As for the OP, they really need to post pictures of the issue at hand.
