Tired Dishwasher??

I have a Frigedaire Dishwasher that is about 10yrs old. Wife says "get a new one."

Lately it is not doing a good job. The spinning sprayers turn ok and it seems that the water is at the full level.

DO these things somehow stop cleaning effectively over time? I have changed the detergent to a Kirkland Enviromentally friendly dishwashing powder from the regular brands . Could this make the difference?

The plates come out with stains on them from food that is still on them _ I do rinse plates before putting in and silverware will sometimes still have dirt on them.. It wasn't like this before.

Any suggestions?

tx,

Tom

I know nothing about the detergent you mentioned -- but I would buy a small box of name brand and give it a couple tries and see if dishes come out clean.

Hard to listen to myself say this my wife calls me " the king of cheap"

Here's a primer
http://home.howstuffworks.com/dishwasher.htm

Make sure it's doing all the steps: draining, filling, washing, draining, filling, dispensing soap, etc.

Your symptom is not very subtle so it shouldn't be difficult to troubleshoot.

I actually cut a door-size sheet of plexiglas so I could observe what was happening with our dishwasher while it was running but we got a new dishwasher instead.

Trible's sells RepairMaster books for a few bucks. This type of book may help.

Thanks... I have changed the detergent and ran it on Heavy Duty with the Hot Water Heater on..this is not how I used to do it but it was MUCH better. I suspect the problem here was the detergent.. If it still is an issue I'll update.

Thanks for your response.
