Rinnai tankless

Hi all, I bought a tankless Rinnai rc80in from a wholesaler in Philadelphia. I live in Canada and it was more than halfprice what I would of paid locally, now the problem is my Installer says it's not approved for Canadian install!!!

I told him it says CSA and UL approved on the box, Is he dicking me around cause I didnt buy it from him, or is there any truth in the matter? Rinnai said they havent heard of any such restrictions and I called the local TSSA office and sent them pics of the certification logos, and he said it looks approved, but to confirm he would have to come in person.

That sounds like "I'd like to verify your address" so I can fine you$$$ if you go ahead and install it yourself.

Any advise appreciated.

Is the CSA only marked on the box? It should be on the WH itself. Not sure what else would be needed, but I am not a pro. Somebody will chime in shortly.

More likely a CYA on his part.
It's his reputation on the line so I can not blame him wanting to see it.

Ok, I understand the CYA so I emailed a couple of more pics, I'm waiting for him to reply. Maybe I'll have to take the unit to his office, its kinda heavy, maybe the receptionist will give me a hand with it gotta love red tape politics

I'm in BC, but I'm sure Ontario is similar. Here, that info is available online from the Safety Authority (BC's authority having jurisdiction over gas) under directives. Check the TSSA website for any such directives, or it may be included in Ontario's provincial gas act, whatever it may be called. In BC, as long as it has at least one approved symbols found in the directive, it can be installed.
