Replace a Miele Washer or a different brand?

I live in a fairly small apartment where the folks before had installed a Miele washer (1119) and dryer. The washer broke last week and I'm trying to decide if I should continue with the Miele brand or not. There aren't a lot of options because the depth of the cabinet space is only 24" (seems like Frigidaire is one, which is about a third the cost). I'm willing to replace the dryer too if there is a good (less than 24" deep) option. Any suggestions would be welcome!

How long did that Miele run?

I'm not sure you can get more than 5 years out of an appliance today. I'm wondering if the introduction of extended warranties and the much shorter service life are coincidental.

Thanks. My basic question is: is the miele really 3x as good as anything on the market (given its price)? Does anyone know of other washers that are as small (in depth) as the 1119?

I wouldn't buy a lawnmower at 3X the price of something that could get the grass cut. Can't see doing that for a dishwasher either.

I personally like extremely simple washing machines. Usually last long and are cheap. Have you considered getting the unit repaired instead? Might be a better solution.

Replace both with FrigidAire if possible; and no, it is not a typo.
