Pellet Furnace

We bought a pellet furnace this week and need to get it installed. We are trying to get it down into our old Michigan basement but the room to the stairs is way to small. We wanted to pit into a room that we are not using but are unsure if we can add it in to the duct work there or if it truly needs to be downstairs at the trunk of the venting by the old furnace. Does any one know?
