over the range microwave

I have recently removed 11 year old whirlpool gold microwave with front grill plate at top which blew out the front. We are wanting to install ge advantium which vents out of the top front when recirculating. Wanting to know if anyone has had to fur these out from wall or will this be fine, with 15 inch upper cabinets. It looks really close but not sure how far front should stick out so cabinets don"t get ruined. Specs from ge say max cabinet depth is 13 inches? Thanks Chris

I can't address your specific question, but whenever possible, over-the-range microwaves should be vented outside. Every one I've ever installed could be set up either way.

max cabinet depth means just that 13" max.

If you're on an outside wall why not vent it straight out?
We had a GE vented directly out the wall, as well as a Frigidere ( which
we currently have) We purchased the duct work ourselves,
it wasn't part of the installation kit.
