New washer / dryer - 3.5 VS 4.3 washer & gas VS elec dryer

Our older traditional top load washer & electric dryer need replacing.
Pretty sure we're leaning toward a front load washer for efficiency.

- Family: two adults, two kids (8 & 11). Current top load is a 3.2 cu/ft. I like the price point of the 3.5 front loads. Are the 4.3's REALLY nice to have? The current washer has been fine; once in a 'blue moon' my wife has had to take a comforter to the L-mat.

Also: Opinions on gas VS electric for the dryer (roughed-in for both).
I understand the operational savings of gas and should break even against extra $100 initial cost @ two years. Gas hook-up connection is not a concern; now how & done before.
- What about longevity / repair cost between the two? One better than the other for the clothes?

Currently looking at some LG's currently on sale?
Brand suggestions?
