Need Help with downdraft blower installation

We just purchased a Kenmore Elite Gas slide in range model #31073 we also purchased a Kenmore Downdraft Blower model# 59940. We went to install both of these yesterday but I think there is a problem. There will be about a 4" gap between the back of the stove and the vent. If memory serves me right I thought the vent was suppose to be right at the back of the stove.

Does anyone know of a good video that shows how to do this, or can someone on here please help me.
We have put the stove into an island and can not have a ceiling vent as we have Cathedral Ceilings and I don't really want one.

I am really hoping someone on here can help me with this.

Not really clear on what you have. what's a 59940? doesn't come up as an appliance...telescopic vent? they're installed behind cooktops. Jennair makes a slide in w/downdraft incorporated.
