My washing machine is leaking oil

This is a Whirlpool LSQ 8000LQ3 bought in 2006.

Moved it for the first time in a LONG time and found what seems to be an oil spot about the size of a nickle. It is directly under the center of the washer.

Could a motor or gear box have a bad seal or.........?

Thank you

Probably coming from the transmission. It's possible it could be a bad seal or loose bolt(s). If your handy, you can try and tightened the bolts and see if that helps. Wipe up the excess oil spot and diffinately keep an eye on it. If you notice more oil coming out, get it fixed as soon as possible. Once enough oil has drained out of the transmission it will lock up and fail. Just a thought.

A repairman came over and found a oil leak at a bottom seal. Said Whirlpool washers all do this and keep an eye on problem. I have a piece of cardboard under and look from time to time. It show a spot of oil occasionally, not every cycle.

He gave an estimate for repair P&L of $400 and said repair is better than any new machine.

So right now we will use it until something goes seriously wrong.
