Missing range grounding strap

I purchased a used stove. Previously used with 4 prong plug. Wanting to use 3 prong due to current electrical outlet. The grounding strap was removed for previous 4 prong setup. Can I replace the grounding strap with #10 or #12 copper wire safely and use the 3 prong cord?
