maytag washer issue

This is an older model maytag A5000 top loading washing machine. After washing a load of clothes, the washer tub fills up with clean water. It happens slowly overnight, even after i shut off the water valve to the machine and unplug it. I have to run the spin cycle again to remove the water. If i do nothing, it continues to fill up with a good amount of clean water - almost halfway . What is the cause?

water seepage through the fill valve, change the valve part #205613. You are either not turning the faucets off completly or they are not turning off.

The water valves don't feel loose when I turn them. I am sure I am closing both off when i turn the valves. Approx how much does a fill valve cost? Can a novice like me replace it myself?
