kenmore water softner

I have a model 625.3484500 kenmore water softner. I get a error 3 message on the display. When I remove the electrical plug and plug in back in, the motor continues to run. The cam and gear tries to move and at some point just snaps back to a frozen position. The manual says the code meas the motor is inop or face plate problem. Since the motor continues to run, it can not be inop. The face plate is just a plastic cover in which I can not figure out what this has to do with the problem. Anyone have any suggestions to help fix this problem.

Thanks!

kenmore water softner

I'm not water softener tech by any means, just a long-time DIYer.
I would unplug the unit and lube the cam, gears, etc. with WD-40. I've done that on mine before and it has straightened it up.
Good Luck!
Mike
