Kenmore Fridge Freezing food Section

I have a 10 yr old side by side 106 56532400 Kenmore that is running at about 32-33f in the refridge section. Freezer is at 0 f.
My fridge has the electronic push button temp controls.
When I adjust the fridge to 1, it still stays at 32/33 24 hrs later.
I can't seem to be able to get into self-diagnostic mode, although I tried suggestions from other posts. I think it may be the damper, as it appears open. The damper does not have a rod going to the front of the fridge, so seems to be self contained.
Anybody have any ideas to diagnose this? I have meds that can't be frozen, and have them in the door section...and I open the door a lot to keep them from freezing.
Thanks

Kenmore Fridge Freezing food Section

I took the damper cover off, and tried testing the thermistor in the unit. I placed it in ice-water, and my ohm meter showed the thermistor as "open" (in, and out of the ice-water). Anybody tell me if I'm on the right track?
Thanks.
