Ice Maker Motor gearing up every 4 seconds

I bought the new metallic look side by side refrigerator with icemaker from Hotpoint 3 years ago in August 2004, model HSM25GFRE. Recently a motor makes a soft sounding gearing up like it is coming on and then it wains. This repeats itself every 4 seconds and goes on for hours. Sometimes the sound subsides. When I open the freezer door, I can tell the sound is definitely coming from the ice maker area. Do I need to call an icemaker repair person? Everything on the unit works well and the ice and water in the door are fine except the water has black specs in it. I had my refrigerator installer disconnect the filter in the refrigerator as I have an under the sink Reverse Osmossios unit under my sink that supplies the water to the refrigerator for water and ice. Does anyone know about this sound or the black specs in the water from the refrigerator???? (there are no black specs in the water direct
from the Reverse Osmossis unit)

It is likely the fan that you are hearing.

This is cause by a failed mother board that is located at the back of the fridge.

You will have to replace the board.

You can get all your Appliance parts here.

Hi all,

Could always shut off the icemaker for a while.....if noise still there the Mother board/fan motor is suspect like GT mentioned.
