Ice maker in freezer

Hi! I have a stupid question but don't want to ruin my appliance. We just bought a new house and there was a hook up for a water line to the fridge but we can't find the turn on valve ANYWHERE! Very frustrating. We've looked under the sink and in garage ( right next to kitchen) and we don't have a basement. So I was wondering if I bought a bag of ice and put it in the ice maker holder if it would come out trough the door the same or if it would ruin the fridge? Thanks!

do you have a basement? sometimes they hook them to the closest pipe which could be right under the fridge or at the water heater, that's where mine is. they probably used one of those self piercing valves which are crap.

can you not follow the tubing back to the source? As for your question, yes you can just dump a bag of ice into the bucket without hurting anything.

You must have at least a crawl space, have you looked there? I would tap into a water line if it hasn't been done but it sounds like it has. I'd also install a valve at the frig.

My ice maker died a couple of weeks ago and I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet. I dumped some ice in the bucket and it is working fine. I don't think you could hurt the ice dispenser that way. So far I haven't had issues.

Good luck finding the spot where it was tapped in. I had a house with PEX plumbing so I had to run the fridge line to a bathroom faucet on the other end of the house just to find some copper to tap into. Check under every sink and every exposed copper line you can find.
