Default how to test water level switch?

ok, before I even solved my washer motor cutting out problem, the water level switch started acting up. It started when I tilted the front panel backward and the hose got disconnected from the switch. I then simply plugged it back in, but now the water won't stop. Is there a procedure for putting this super sensitive thingy back on? When the water is filling up, should i expect the hose to have the same water level as the tub? The cabinet is out of the machine from doing the motor earlier, so I can see the water level.
