How Old am I.....?

I have a GE top freezer refrigerator - Model TBX20ZFCR - and it works well but I would like to know how old it is....it came with the house when we moved in 13 years ago.....I have been surfing the Internet without success.....probably typing in the wrong search words......

The date code is in the serial number.. The first two alpha characters give the month and year of manufacture.

Whats the serial number on your fridge?

Thanks for the quick reply - the lower half of the S/N is missing - it looks like 502 or 503 - cannot tell.....

By the date code it was mfg in either July 1958,1984,or 1996.

If you have had it 13 years then 1996 is out.... Pretty sure 1958 is out...

I would go with July 1984

Some of the older ones were a lot better than the new stuff..

I remember my parents had a Kelvinator fridge from back in the early 1960's... Worked fine the last time I saw it in 1997..

I have to agree with you - I would love to "ride it out".....I added an ice maker 13 years ago - and it worked fine for 12 years - then it recently started acting up - fills the whole ice receiver with water and then it freezes into a solid block of ice....had a repair person change out the water control valve and no luck - still the same....so a bit frustrated.....so after 13 years I thought that it might be time to replace.....I'm just afraid that it will give up the ghost at some inconvenient time....also I suspect that it is not Energy Star rated and is probably using 3x the energy.....but again I have to agree that it is probably higher quality than the newer ones.....it is also clean and still looks great.....

Feb is always the best time to buy new applicances for the after xmas inventory reduction thing.. Scratch and dent is always good if the scratch or dent is on the side against the counter.

Ya can always put the old one in the garage for beer [or sodas] til it really decides to stop working...

You are right - the post holiday doldrums are the best especially in upstate New York...the snow is flying and no one wants to buy anything when it is all white outside....evryone is wearing boots and making a mess....
I figure I can get a 21cu" for about $600......anyway would rather do it now - don't want a side-by-side "fancy" fridge....much appreciate your replies....
