How much gas is used to boil a pot of water?

acromwell 11-22-2011 05:59 PM

My boyfriend keeps telling me that to boil water uses toooo much gas cause it takes too long and adds to gas bill.Is this correct?

jbfan 11-22-2011 06:17 PM

Any use of gas adds to the bill.

my educated guess is you could boil several pots of water for pennies. Tell him to stop complaining or you'll be serving him uncooked mac and cheese

don't let him see the BTU rating on the boiler then what BTUs are actually used to heat the house...then the balance going up the chimney...:eek:he might end up sitting up there...:censored:

1 btu = the energy to raise 1 pound of water 1* F

So 50* water from tap to 212*F by how much water in the pot

Say a pound of water 162 BTU's say double it for losses to 325 BTU's man you need a new BF if he's complaining about that.

and the big BTU hit when boiling water is when it goes from 212F water to 212F steam changing of state...forgrettaboutit:furious:.....it's the same as looking for your porch light on your electric bill.
