how do I get the water back on?

The washing machine "Floodsafe" auto shutoff connector shut off because I pulled the valve forward to turn on the water. The valve shut off. I need it to turn on. GRRRRRR. I hate this thing.... How do I get it to turn back on? How do I keep it from shutting off again for no reason?
