How do I add rinse agent to my dishwasher?

Hello:

My dishwasher isn't rinsing dishes well and I heard that rinse agent might solve the problem. But I don't know how to add rinse agent to the dishwasher. I don't have a manual because I am a renter. I will try to call Sears and see if they can help but in the meatime I would appreciate your help. I've included three photos of the relvants parts for your reference. Thank you.

Here's a photo of the diswashing soap compartment and an adjacent compartment that may be where one adds the rinse agent:

Here is a closer look at the unidentified compartment:

Here's a look at the same without the cap. Note the arrow that one can turn to one of a few numerical settings. I would like to know what that does as well.

You just dump it in the hole labeled max in your photos. If you have the brand and model you can get the manual online.

If you have hard water that is probably more of an issue than the rinse agent.

You just pour it on top of the arrow. The clear hole on the right is a sight glass. As you pour in the rinse aid, the sight glass will begin to fill. It won't take much to fill it up. You can turn the arrow from max to min to adjust the amount of rinse aid it dispenses in each cycle. Once the sight glass is no longer full, add more. Buy the smallest bottle you can and it will probably last a month or two.

Can you guys tell from the first picture above, where it has soap dishes labeled 15/25, what kind of diswashing detergent I should use? Right now, I use the powder and set the dishwasher to light wash. I also select heat dry and high temp by pushing their respective buttons.

the kind of soap does not matter, if you have light soiled dishes only fill the larger cup if you have heavily soiled dishes use both cups.

Just make sure you run the hot water at your kitchen faucet until it comes out hot before running your dishwasher. Otherwise, you will be washing your dishes in mostly cold water and the dish soap will never fully disolve and leave a white film on your dishes.
