Hot Water Heater

When it rains it pours. I have just been posting here about sizing and venting for new washer and dryer that I have had to buy and now I have discovered that my gas hot water heater is corroded and leaking. As might be clear from this message, I know little about them, though I have begun to read a bit. The question is which one to buy? My wife and I use very little water so I think that a new hybrid one or even a direct heat one would be lost on me (I also wonder about putting a hybrid one in a basement room where the air is pretty cold; or have I misunderstood the principle of it?). It would take me many years to recoup the cost of the unit itself in the savings, even if they worked well. So I think we should look into a good quality cylander gas heater and it seems to me like the ones with 12 year warranty would suit us best. I would also like a 50 gallon tank, in case the family comes for visits. I looked at Lowes and Home Depot, but could not find any 50 g ones with 12 years.

Does anyone know of a good brand name like this?

Hot Water Heater

Looks like Rheem has an 8 year warranty that can be extended to 12 years.

Hot Water Heater

When I went to my Lowes store I found that they did have one; whirlpool.

Are they all about the same or what should one look for and are the brands about the same in quality?
