hooking up dryer to power outlet

I'm wondering if it would be possible to wire a NEMA 10-50 power cord for ranges into a 240 v 30 amp clothes dryer and plugging into a 10-50 receptacle block. Any issues with that? Also, what about a custom built 25 ft. extension cord with Nema 10-50 male on one end and Nema 10-50 female on the other? These are 10 gauge wires. I wouldn't want to burn my house down. Thanks!

You are not supposed to use a 50 amp receptacle on a 30 amp circuit. Plugging a 30 amp dryer into a 50 amp circuit violates the mfg instructions and increases fire risk should something go wrong.

Putting 50 amp cord caps on a 30 amp extension cord is an accident looking for a place to happen.

Edit: If those 2 questions are related, running a dryer on an extension cord is not permitted by code.

Just swap out the breaker and outlet.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?
