Hardwired dishwasher + outlet = ?

Before we redid our kitchen I had the dishwasher hardwired, we only did that because the old one broke, it was in place for 2 months, never even took the protective cover off it.

One of 2 things I had a pro do was the electrical (know your limits type of thing). Well, they just finished yesterday, I now have a nice solid outlet under the sink for my dishwasher to plug into.

Local regulations don't care if I have a plug-in dishwasher or a hardwired one, the problem is I have an outlet and a dishwasher that used to be hardwired.

Is it OK to just wire in an extension cord to the dishwasher and plug that in? Is there a special type of cord I should use? Maybe one of those "applicance cords" I see at the hardware store?

Thank You
