good old Montgomery Ward refrig HMG 1400-0 with bad smell

I took all the food and cleaned inside. Did not see any standing water in refrig or top freezer. It is cooling just fine. The only hole (drain?) I could find is under the veg/fruit bin. I put a Q tip down that hole; it came up clean.

Does leaking freon have a scent? I can smell whatever it is from the dining room when the refrigerator door is closed, but not as much as when the door is open, so any clues would be appreciated...

Refrigerant itself doesn't smell a whole lot. The oil does though. You can try wiping the unit down with disinfectant or cleaner.
