GE zdis15css ice maker

Thank you for taking my ?
I have an under counter ice maker the issue that I am having is that the water resivior pumps dry and the recirt. pumps keeps running. It makes ice but sounds like a grinding sound..Shouldn't the pump stop when the ice is on the cutter grid, then when the ice drops the tank fills and then the recert pumps start.?
