GE Washer Stops between Cycles - Timer?

Our washer is only 3 years old. Someone in my family "overloaded" our washer. During the spin cycle the washer was jumping around. As soon as possible, I opened the door to make it stop. Since then, the washer stops inbetween some cycles, and sometimes a cycle may run forever. The affected cycles are the agitation cycle and the spin cycle.

I'm thinking it seems like the Timer is bad, but I don't know how the jumping around could affect the timer in this way. Any ideas?

I would check the door switch first.
