GE THF24PR Refrig/Freezer icemaker

The icemaker dispenses crushed ice in both the cube and crushed ice positions. Water is dispensed properly. I pulled the ice storage bin out and found a loose solid metal cylinder (1 7/8 inches long and about 1/2 inch in diameter) with a hole through the cylinder near one end. Any ideas what the part is--I assume it is related to my problem. How can I fix my problem?
Thanks in advance.

The piece that you found,is part of your solenoid. The solenoid,is located on the back side of the cover at back of freezer. The solenoid, switches the bucket door, from cubed to crushed. You'll have to get the panel out,to see what's going on.
