Question

GE REfrigerator Water Line Replacement

When using the water dispenser water flowed out from under the refrigertor. Traced the cause to a broken water line near the dispenser relay. Trying to replace the hose I find it routes through the refrigerator compartment where it is caulked (to prevent loss of cooling?). It appears difficult to replace the whole line because of this. For ease of repair I could just bypass the loop through the refrigerator which I believe just pre-chills the water to the dispenser. Is this advisable? If not recommended, what is the easiest way to get at the hose routing through the refrigerator. Note the broken hose appears darkend and has lots of cracks (looks like it may have been degraded by heat from the compressor). This makes me hesitant to just splice a new section onto it.

GE REfrigerator Water Line Replacement

you didn't list a model & serial #-MAJOR ERROR- so don't know what you have. in any case, don't hack it up. it's not hard to replace the tubing. if this refrig is not ancient-your condenser fan may not be working,at all/erratic [causing tubing to overheat] was the unit area exceptionaly hot? this would be an indication of fan problems. with #'s go to local appliance parts store and buy what you need.
