My GE dryer seems to be working fine, but the noise is significantly louder than normal. It noise is pretty similar to the usual sound, just several times louder. I have taken the front off, checked the belt, idler pulley and cleaned up any lint.
While I was putting everything back together, I ran the motor with no heat before putting the top back on. The noise was the same and it did not seem to have anything to do with the glides or drum support bearing - it sounded like it was coming from the bottom where the blower and motor are. Anything I can do to get the noise back to normal? Both parts seemed to turn freely when I had the thing open.
The fan has probably worked itself toward the front and is running. If you take the front panel off of the dryer you should be able to see the front of the fan in the bottom left hand corner. In the center of the blade is a hex net. Loosen it slightly and push the fan blade as far back on the shaft as it will go. Tighten the hex nut good and tight and you should be good to go.

Thanks! I think it's back to the normal noise level - can't trust my ears so I'll get my wife to listen. I didn't feel any play toward the front or back on the shaft when I loosened the screw, but I tightened up the hex and looks like that did it.
I really appreciate the help - never would have figured that out on my own.
