gas range/oven installation

Is there anything special I should know before installing a gas range/oven? If the gas valve is off until I'm done, is there any danger?

I like to cap off any gas lines that aren't connected.

if it has a flex line don't reuse- buy new one-even if it looks ok. don't tape/paste the compression nut [2nd nut] do tape or paste all other connections. leak check all connections after hook-up.

How do you check for leaks?

Dip a sponge in soapy water. Wipe around the the newly installed line near the valve. If it bubbles, there's a leak. This is old school way of detecting gas leak that my dad taught me. Others may have better suggestions.
