frigidaire FRS26HF6DB2 Ice Problem

This is a side by side fridge freezer:

Freezer is roughly 95% full of stuff. Last night the wife turned the ice maker on (lowered the bar), as we wanted more ice for today. Awoke to a puddle on the floor and a freezer that looks like an Ice / Rain storm hit. the ice bin was about 50% full of frozen water, every shelf in the freeze had icicles hanging. My 1st guess is that the door did not close all the way and the water inlet partially froze and started to spray water inside the unit, which did 2 things:
1. It never satisfied the ice maker
2. It kept on providing water due to no. 1.

I have taken all items out of the freezer (thankfully, it is about 20 deg outside). I will now defrost the freezer and start over.

I am hopeful that the problem was that simple and can be solved that simply.

any thoughts?

no, it is not that simple. most likely the icemaker fill valve stuck open a little bit which allowed water to slowly drip into the icemaker. you will most likely have to replace that valve.

Well, I know that the door was not closing all the way, but.....

Time will tell. I hope you are not right, but I bet you are!

if it doesn't repeat, another scenario would be; when i/m is left off for a period of time, the cubes-through sublimation- gradually disappear. if at the time of reactivation of i/m they are very small they can jam as they are being expelled. if they're still stuck as it reaches the fill portion you'll have the condition you observed. they'll then go on to being ejected or slip back into mold.
