Is this forum for refrigeration too? Ice maker problems

Sorry if this forum is not for refrigeration also. If inappropriate moderators please delete. I just bought a new Kenmore refrigerator model #253.7480240H. I noticed it is not making ice. It turns out it is not cold enough to freeze. I had the thermostat set to "normal" and today set it to its coldest setting. The fridge is set to about the 3/4 mark. It does manage to make about 1 round of ice per day. This fridge and freezer are empty if that makes any difference. I did put a can of soda in the fridge and it is cold. Tomorrow, when I go over there I will take a thermometer with me and check the temp. Will being empty make a difference on how this works. TIA

If you just bought it, time to call the repaire sevice out. The cooling for the fridge and the freezer are "kind of" seperate units. There could be a number of things wrong with the freezer side such as the thermostate having gone bad.

I moved your thread to the Appliance forum. Where it is more appropriate.

Empty freezer and fridge is probably part of your problem.
Air doesn't hold heat as well as food does. So it can't get the water as cold as it needs.
