Floor dryer vent won't allow enough room for dryer

I have a dryer vent that comes up out of the floor about 4 1/2" from the back wall of the utility room. Because it sticks so far out into the room (a total of nearly 9&quot, there is no dryer that will fit in the space and allow the door to the room to close. I pulled up the laminate and found the reason, a floor joist running parallel to the back of the dryer. Is there a way to move the vent or is there some adapter?

Is the duct such that you could position the washing machine and dryer on either side of the duct? If so, most dryers allow the option of rear or side venting.

Some pictures would be great. You have tore up the floor, now can you move it?

Check the instructions on the drier, sometimes the vent can internally be turned to go out the back, side, or bottom. If you can turn it out the bottom maybe you can be lucky enough to be right over the vent.
