Fancy new induction cook top.

Anyone heard of a downside to the induction cook tops? A sales rep just gave us a demonstration and it seemed like quite the idea. Boils water in just a few seconds and after taking the pan off putting your hand on the burner immediately afterward was quite the surprise.

The induction cooktop is pretty cool...They had them back 10 to 15 years ago when I worked at GE....They work good, but can be very expensive to repair...If you get one ask how much a 5 year service contract would be.....Jim..

Seems like a great product if you have that type of cash for a stovetop unit ($1600 for Electrolux). The website states that when using the induction burner, it supplies 3200 watts of power. Not sure how this is obtained. You also need flat bottomed metal pans since it produces a magnetic field to operate.

He showed us the more affordable GE brand unlike the Wolf some others which are quite expensive. Apparently any pot or pan that a magnet will stick to the bottom is suitable. Now I need to look at some stores to see if any metal bottomed pans have the Teflon coating inside. The idea of all new pots and pans seems ridiculous as we have many and they are in fine shape.
