Dryer Venting Question

My wife and I purchased a home and I just realized that the dryer vent leads directly to the attic and not outside. The home is over 40 years old and a slab home. Unfortunately the washer/dryer room is located in the middle of the house. It's a one story and the only solution I can come up with is out the roof. Is it suggested, frowned upon, ok? Another possibility would be to come down from the attic and run the vent through one of our kitchen cabinets, out the back side of the house. I've look online at some forums, but nothing has answered my specific question and or led to any other alternatives. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Roof is fine, thats where they just ran mine on a rebuild. Has a small vent on the roof, you dont even know its there.

roof is fine, the shorter the better.
